Get to Know Your Styling Tools

by Dana Ramsey

With fall already in full bloom and winter just around the corner, I decided to share my personal hair care regimen, as well as educate you the consumer, with answers to some questions frequently asked of me.  I will also give some suggestions that will prove to be time and cost effective. In the economic state we’re in right now, we all want to get as much wear out of our styles as possible.

We want tresses like the celebrities, but we don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to get them. While some are able to manage with at home care, those numbers are few.  Simply put…. Most times you can tell who’s being maintained professionally and who’s not.  These tips will be useful to the natural (chemical free), relaxed, and extension wearing woman on the go.

Oh My God! I’m Going BALD!

“OH MY GOD!!! I’M GOING BALD”

By Dana Ramsey

“Oh my God, I’m going BALD!”  Is a statement that can be heard worldwide in the past decade.

A statement made by men, women and children. Chemically treated and Natural hair wearers alike. And though it is a universal issue, it is 80% more likely to happen to African-Americans.   Although I am no authority on the subject, I am dealing with the issue myself, so in sharing with you I pray that you receive total hair restoration. Six Steps to Get the Most from Your Hair Stylist

Six Steps to Get the Most from Your Hair Stylist

You know the feeling – you’ve sat in the chair for three hours when your stylist finally hands you the mirror to view your new do. You’re speechless, breathless, and in a state of shock as you stare back at someone who looks nothing like you imagined. If you’ve had a negative salon experience, take a deep breath before you fire your beautician and pull your hair out. You can have a positive, pleasant outcome every time if you will follow these six easy steps:

Winter Hair Care

It’s not just a new year, but another season is upon us as well.  This is just a simple reminder to care for your hair this winter.  The dry and cold winter can be very damaging to your hair.  Keep in mind that the hair takes on the same characteristics of a leaf on a tree.  As the seasons change, the leaves get dry, begin to turn colors and ultimately fall off.  Though our hair may not take such a drastic turn for the worst, it does have a tendency to become brittle and break.  This holds true especially for color treated hair.  Here are some tips for the winter: Read the rest of this entry »

Let the Crutch Go

Beautiful adornments such as ponytails, falls, wigs and lace fronts are just that…Beautiful adornments.  However, for many ethnic women they’ve become crutches. Quick fix replacements for what truly matters.  The investment in one’s self is important.   If a woman’s hair is her crown and glory, many of us are lacking our jewels.  In today’s world we wear many hats, but that is no excuse to abuse ones hair.  Read the rest of this entry »

Food 4 Thought

Medications affect the hair. At times chemicals used such as Relaxer, Color, Perms, etc. do not process properly due to the chemicals inside of your system.  Ask your doctor or pharmacist if there could be ANY possible effects. Also take it upon yourself to research the prescription on line.  I pray healthy hair to you all.

Holiday Hair is Here Again!

How to add a little ZING to that holiday dish called YOU!

By Dana Ramsey,
Owner of Dana’s Styling Salon

Whatever you wanted to do last year but didn’t, do it this time around.  If you never wear color…add a bit. If you’re normally short…add a little length. If you never wear make-up…add a little liner, and a great eyebrow arch takes years off and creates an instant lift.  Have your stylist throw on some eyelashes to add some zing to that holiday dish called you! :-)   Read the rest of this entry »

Winter Hair Care

by Dana Ramsey

It’s not just a new year, but another season is upon us as well.  This is just a simple reminder to care for your hair this winter.  The dry and cold winter can be very damaging to your hair.  Keep in mind that the hair takes on the same characteristics of a leaf on a tree.  As the seasons change, the leaves get dry, begin to turn colors and ultimately fall off.  Though our hair may not take such a drastic turn for the worst, it does have a tendency to become brittle and break.  This holds true especially for color treated hair.  Here are some tips for the winter:

  • Be sure to increase conditioning treatments
  • Don’t be afraid to ask your stylist for a protein, hot oil or cholesterol treatment
  • Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind
  • Ask your stylist what they suggest you use this time of the year

And don’t forget to take care of your stylist.  Feel free to gift your favorite stylist for taking such good care of all of your hair care needs.

Salutations to you all,

Dana

Affirmations Recap

by Dana Ramsey

The last few years have put the hair care industry in shock mode. Men, women and children are breaking one of the cardinal rules. I see it time and time again and each time it has the rippled effect of scratching a chalk board until your nerves are about to shatter. It is something that has to stop!

Laying hands on yourself (head/hair) and speaking death into your situation: I’m going bald, my hair is thinning, my hair is falling out, etc. These may be the current circumstances, however, positive thinking and speaking life into situations make a powerful impact. Try several of these suggestions for at least a month and I promise that you will see change.  Read the rest of this entry »
